The Settling of Sin

I guess there are a million ways to think about salvation. But at Bible Study Tuesday night, looking at salvation from an accounting perspective brought some new insights. Isn't it true, we never grow weary of studying the cross.

The Transactions of Sin
Biblical Truths:
God is Holy.
Sin separates us from God.
God loves us and wants us to be reconciled to Himself.
Sin must be judged.

The transaction between man and sin:
1. Man + Sin = Death

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

The wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23

The transaction between God and sin:
Sin is either on one side of the equation or the other -
on us or on Christ.
2. Jesus + Cross = Payment for Sin in Full

Instead he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins
and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
I Peter 2: 23-24

Biblical Truths:
God settled sin.
God settled sin at the cross.

The transaction between God and man:
We go to the cross to settle our sin with God.
3. Sinful Man + Jesus on the Cross = Life

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins
and purify us from all unrighteousness.
I John 1: 9

Everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3: 15-16
This transaction between God and man is The Greatest Exchange the world has ever known. Jesus took our sin and we get salvation. It is the Crossing at the Cross, have you ever had that?
